Sioux Falls Celebrates Bike to Work
The morning and afternoon of May 18 saw scores of bicyclists converge on Fawick Park to celebrate Bike to Work Day. Under a sunny sky bands played (Rick Show and Toby Kane), the McLaughlin unicyclists demonstrated their skills, bus/bike passes were distributed, food and drink was consumed, and people visited health-oriented vendors and made new friends.
Special rides also took place that day. After some morning bagels and coffee a group left Fawick Park to do their ride to work at Eros Data Center. Lincoln High won the public high school bicycle challenge with 21 staff members (including the principal) riding to work. Washington High came in second with 18. Roosevelt High apparently chose not to compete.
Bike to Work Day is an annual event across North America. This was the 6 th year that Sioux Falls has held a Bike to Work Day. Funding for the events came from generous contributors. Still, the budget is not balanced, so click here for information if you wish to make a contribution.
